Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) means the endoscopic examination under sonographic control. Endoscopic ultrasound procedures, such as fine needle aspiration or fine needle biopsy, are primarily used to obtain biopsy material for an improved diagnosis of tumor diseases. EUS enables the removal of biopsy material in compact units from structures that are not accessible with other methods or only with great invasiveness and the associated increased risk.
