MAGNETIC BLACK-STAR®
A magnetic solution for ureteral stent removal — manufactured by Urotech and supplied by Fannin.
Fannin supplies the Magnetic Black-Star® ureteral stent, manufactured by Urotech — a device designed to support non-invasive removal through magnetic technology. Clinical studies indicate benefits for both patient experience and resource efficiency in urological care.
Magnet Options for Magnetic Black-Star®
The Magnetic Black-Star® ureteral stent features a biocompatible magnet, secured at the bladder-side pigtail via a thread. This design facilitates magnetic retrieval after temporary placement.
Magnet Sizes:
The selection of magnet size depends on the insertion technique and the patient’s anatomy.
XS: 4.8 FR / 3.5 mm magnet length
S: 7 FR / 3.5 mm magnet length
L: 9 FR / 4.5 mm magnet length

Use in Paediatric Urology
A clinical evaluation led by Dr. Thomas Blanc suggests that the Magnetic Black-Star® may offer significant advantages in paediatric applications.
Why conventional removal poses challenges:
Children often require general anaesthesia and cystoscopy for stent removal, which can:
Increase procedural complexity
Impose psychological stress on the child and family
Carry anaesthesia-related risks, particularly with repeated exposure
Magnetic Black-Star® as a clinical alternative:
“Our study shows that the concept of a magnetic ureteral stent in children is successful and offers great advantages for patients, families and medical institutions”.
