Fannin UK Hosts Inaugural Morcellation Masterclass at Manchester Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre
Medical devices provider, Fannin UK, has successfully hosted its first Morcellation Masterclass at the Manchester Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre (MSSSC), bringing together 15 consultant gynaecologists for a CPD-accredited program focused on safe powered morcellation practice and advanced laparoscopic skills.
The event, which took place on Thursday 12th March 2026, combined expert-led lectures, surgical video demonstrations and hands-on workshops designed to support precision, patient safety and best practice.
The Masterclass was led by Manchester University Gynaecology Consultants Dr Nikolaos Tsampras and Dr Sujata Gupta, both experienced laparoscopic surgeons with extensive clinical and teaching expertise in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery.
Throughout the session, the faculty shared practical insights from their own surgical practice, guiding delegates through key techniques, safety considerations and real-world clinical scenarios.
Delegates observed demonstrations of both powered and manual morcellation techniques performed by the faculty in a simulated lab setting, alongside the use of the Espiner Medical morcellation sac. Developed by UK-based manufacturer Espiner Medical, part of the Fannin Group, the company’s tissue retrieval portfolio has a long-standing reputation in minimally invasive surgery and is recognised internationally for its durable ripstop nylon construction, designed to support secure specimen containment during laparoscopic procedures.
Feedback from the course was overwhelmingly positive, with evaluation scores rated highly across all categories, including relevance to clinical practice, quality of teaching, balance of theory and practical training, and overall satisfaction. Delegates particularly highlighted the practical training and faculty expertise as key strengths. The session was described as “highly engaging” and delivered in a “very relaxed atmosphere,” while also “maintaining a balanced academic approach.” Several participants noted that “it has certainly improved my confidence in doing in-bag morcellation for all my cases.”
It has been a pleasure to work with Fannin UK on delivering this Masterclass. Our aim was to create a balanced program that combined evidence-based education with practical, hands-on experience. By exploring the benefits of powered morcellation alongside the use of containment systems such as the Espiner morcellation bag, we were able to give delegates a clear understanding of safe tissue management techniques that can be applied in modern minimally invasive surgery. It was particularly rewarding to see the strong engagement from participants and the very positive feedback on the sessions.” – Course Faculty and Consultant Gynaecologist, Dr Nikolaos Tsampras

Following the success of the inaugural event, registrations are already open for the next Morcellation Masterclass in June, reflecting strong demand for structured CPD training in this specialist area.
